Bournemouth Christmas Market and Festive Trail 2026: dates and visitor guide

Christmas market stalls and festive lights in Bournemouth town centre

Bournemouth’s Christmas season links the town-centre market with an evening wander through the Lower Gardens. It is a useful choice for families who want to enjoy the lights without committing to a paid trail, with separately bookable attractions available for those planning a longer visit.

What to expect

The Christmas Market brings independent gift and food traders to Bournemouth Square, while the Festive Trail continues through the Lower Gardens. The wider programme includes skating, seasonal family activities and the Alpine Lodge. Choose the free market-and-lights walk as your starting point, then check the individual booking pages before adding an experience.

Dates, opening hours and spending

The wider event runs from 12 November 2026 to 3 January 2027, but the market finishes on 31 December. Published market hours are 11am–8pm daily, with food traders continuing until 10pm; check for holiday changes. Payments across the market and Alpine Lodge are cashless, so bring a card or contactless payment method. Entry to the market and festive lights is free, with separate charges for selected activities.

Families, dogs and accessibility

The organiser lists accessible toilets within the event area. Ask about the route and any attraction-specific access requirements before booking. Dogs on leads are welcome in the market and downstairs in the Alpine Lodge. Families using the lodge should note that under-18s are admitted only before 6pm and cannot go upstairs. Children’s ticket requirements vary between the paid experiences.

How to get there

Set your destination to Bournemouth Square for the market, rather than an attraction elsewhere in the resort. From Bournemouth railway station, plan the onward bus, taxi or walking leg to the town centre before setting off. If driving, choose a town-centre public car park and check its evening closing time and charges. Leave enough time to walk between the Square and your booked attraction; the event covers several locations.

Planning your visit

For a manageable family outing, browse the stalls first and save the garden lights for after dark. Book paid activities with a gap between them for queues, food and toilet stops. Dress for an outdoor evening and keep the official event page handy for weather-related changes. If travelling after Christmas, remember that the market and wider festival have different finishing dates.
