Padel by the sea: where to play on your next coastal break

Aerial view of four players on an enclosed blue padel court

A game of padel can give a seaside break a different rhythm: an hour on court, lunch afterwards and the rest of the afternoon for the coast. You do not have to pack a racket or join a club to try it at several of the venues below.

These five coastal stops offer different settings, from Hove Beach Park to roof-covered courts at Porth and a singles court in Lytham. Some are close to the seafront; others need a separate journey from the beach. Book ahead, check equipment arrangements and leave time to collect your kit before the session starts.

What is padel, and can beginners play?

Padel uses a solid-faced racket and an enclosed court, where the walls become part of the rally. It is normally played as doubles, with four people, although some venues have smaller courts designed for singles. The serve is underarm, after a bounce, into the diagonally opposite service box. During a rally, the ball can rebound from a wall after bouncing on the court, but must be returned before its second bounce.

For a first attempt, an introductory lesson is a useful way to learn the serve, scoring and wall rebounds. Travelling as a couple or on your own? Look for a singles court or a suitable organised session before reserving a doubles court. Read the LTA beginner rules guide or explore its court finder.

Hove Beach Park: outdoor courts on the coast

Hove Beach Park is a straightforward choice for visitors who want to fit padel into a day by the sea. Game4Padel operates four outdoor courts, with bookings available to non-members.

Non-member court time costs £7 per player per hour on weekdays before 5pm, rising to £8 on weekday evenings and at weekends. For four non-members, that works out at £28 or £32 for an hour, before equipment. Rackets cost £5 each to hire from the pavilion; a tube of balls costs £7.50 to buy. Published court hours are 8am–10pm daily.

Find it: Hove Beach Park, Kingsway, Hove, BN3 4FA. For a rail journey, use Hove station information and plan the onward route to the park. Check parking signs and restrictions if driving.

Newquay: SeaSpace at Porth, with singles courts and roof cover

SeaSpace welcomes day visitors as well as people staying at the aparthotel. The Porth site has three doubles courts and two dedicated singles courts, making it worth considering when there are only two of you. The venue also describes roof cover over the courts.

Non-members can book six days ahead. Beginner mix-ins and other organised activities offer another route onto court. Read the session description before booking: a player-led mix-in is different from a coached lesson.

SeaSpace states that racket and ball hire is included for staying guests. Day visitors should confirm equipment charges and the total booking price through UK Padel before paying. The courts have step-free, level access from the car park.

Find it: SeaSpace, Watergate Road, Porth, Cornwall, TR7 3LX. It is outside Newquay town centre, so plan an onward journey from Newquay station. Drivers should check day-visitor parking arrangements.

Read SeaSpace visitor information or book through UK Padel Newquay.

Poole: pay-and-play at East Dorset

East Dorset Lawn Tennis & Croquet Club in Lower Parkstone offers three outdoor courts on a pay-and-play basis. Membership is not required, and bookings go through Playtomic.

The rate is £22 per court per hour off-peak or £26 at peak times. Peak periods are weekdays 5–9pm, Saturdays noon–5pm and Sundays 6–9pm. Standard bookings open five days ahead, with sessions lasting 60 or 90 minutes.

Arrange racket hire in advance. Collection is usually from the clubhouse café between 9am and 9pm, except bank holidays; an 8am start needs a collection arrangement the previous day. Courts operate 8am–9pm. The cancellation deadline is eight hours before play, and booking fees are not refunded.

Find it: Salterns Road, Lower Parkstone, Poole, BH14 8BL. This is a separate stop from the beach. Parkstone station information includes onward travel and accessibility details. Check the route and parking arrangements before setting out.

An indoor option in Poole and Bournemouth

If an exposed outdoor court does not suit your plans, Cross Court offers indoor padel at two Dorset centres. Its Poole venue is on Upton Road, BH17 7AH, while the Bournemouth address is 105 Provence Drive, BH11 9FE. Both require their own journey from the seafront.

The operator advertises equipment rental, changing facilities and a café and bar, alongside introductory lessons, coaching and social sessions. Bookings go through Playtomic. Select the correct branch before checking prices, equipment charges and availability.

What to check before booking holiday padel

Compare the complete cost for your group. A price quoted per player can look cheaper than a whole-court price until you add all four people. Include racket hire, balls, parking and any booking charge, then check whether the session lasts 60 or 90 minutes.

If you need equipment, reserve it alongside the court where possible. Confirm where it is collected, whether reception will be staffed and what happens if you arrive late. For a lesson or social, check the required playing level and whether equipment is included.

Bring comfortable sports clothing, suitable court footwear and water. Outdoor bookings also need a weather plan: read the cancellation policy before paying, especially if the game is the reason for a longer journey. A roof-covered court and a fully indoor centre offer different conditions, so check the particular court you are reserving.

Leave a little space either side of the game for changing and travel, then use the rest of the day for the coast. If you would prefer a trip organised around coaching and regular court time, compare specialist padel holidays with the cost and flexibility of booking a coastal stay and local courts separately.

Venue information and advertised prices checked on 27 October 2026. Confirm the final price, equipment arrangements and available sessions with the operator before booking.
