Lions’ £3.3k boost to seafront pool plan

The St Annes Promenade Gardens Friends has been trying to revive the paddling pool that once stood at St Annes seafront and has now received a major boost from the Lytham St Annes lions who have donated £3,300 towards the cause. Promenade Gardens Friends has been working with the Fylde Council in their efforts to change the area into a modern wet play area. The project is expected to cost £250,000 but those behind the efforts are hoping that most of this money will be covered by funds from grants.

The Lions Clubs International will be marking 100 years since its creation next year and the donation is a community legacy gift from the club. Eileen Skelly, the branch president of the Lytham St Annes Lions Club, stated that the St Annes paddling pool has been a great source of joy for the local children and people on holiday in the area over the years and that the pool was very much a part of the community. She stated that the club she was representing was quite happy that they had a chance to play a role in the project which is expected to give new life to the water play area in St Annes Promenade.

The chairman of the Promenade Gardens Friends, Ian Roberts, also stated that they were extremely grateful for the support they had received from the Lions Club and that their presence and contribution had already helped to trigger even more funding from other businesses in the area towards the project. He concluded by stating that they were still looking for other sources of funding so as to reach their target and they were confident that the delivery of the project will be done successfully.

The Promenade Gardens is a major park in the Borough of Fylde and is located close to the centre of St. Annes. The park provides visitors with many outdoor leisure facilities which is why it’s a key attraction for both locals and visitors to the area. Apart from the pool that is to be constructed, the park also has mature gardens and other facilities for active leisure actives. There are facilities for people of all ages in the park. The council and other people in the area are always looking for ways of improving the facilities and services provided at the park and this pool is one such measure.
