The Cowes Post Office is being moved to The Southern Co-operative store, 155 Mill Hill Road, Cowes PO31 7El and the move will come with much longer working hours on 19th of May, a Friday. At the moment, the branch is operated by a temporary postmaster working from a portable building that is located at the Cowes Yacht Haven. This has been the situation since the end of 2015. However, starting on Tuesday 25th April, these premises will not be available anymore from 6 pm of the day in question. The temporary closure will remain so pending the completion of the new branch.
Pallence Road to stay open for longer hours
Due to the temporary closure of the main branch, the Pallance Road Post Office will stay open for some extra day in order to help customers in the Cowes area. This branch which is located at 1 Pallance Road normally opens on the mornings of Monday, Tuesday and Wednesday but the postmaster has now agreed to keep the branch open on the mornings of Thursdays and Fridays as well from 25th April to 19th May.
Apart from this branch, there are several other branches that people in the area can also use such as:
· Newport Post office, The Co-op: This branch is open from Monday to Saturday from 9 am to half past five in the evening. On Mondays, it opens thirty minutes earlier.
· East Cowes Post Office, 9 Wells Road: The branch is open from Monday to Sunday. On Monday to Saturday, the office opens at 6.30 in the morning while on Sunday it opens at 7 in the morning. Closing time is 11 pm on all days.
The new branch
The new post office branch in Cowes is designed to be a modern main-style branch. Services will be provided from three counters; a post office service point and two full-screen. The working days for the two main counters will be Monday to Saturday from 9 in the morning to half past five in the evening. The Post Office service point will only be providing particular services and will be open from Monday to Saturday from 6 to 9 in the morning and from 5.30 to 11 in the evening. Services will also be available on Sunday from 6 in the morning to 11 in the evening. This means the branch will be open for an extra 68 hours every week to make it easier for customers.
