The Wynding Inn, The Lord Crewe, Bamburgh

When you dine at the Wynding Inn, you’ll have no doubt that what you’re eating is the best that North Northumberland has to offer. The owners of the Inn are dedicated to sourcing their suppliers from the local area including their meat which comes from R Carter & Sons which has been the village’s butcher for 125 years. GS Clark in Bamburgh supplies the vegetables and fruits while North East merchants provide the fish and seafood. The locally sourced food means that The Wynding offers quite a bit to the economy and the environment but it also means that those who dine here can have a culinary experience that is uniquely local.

Although the Inn is part of the hotel, it has its own entrance from the street. The restaurant is at the back and you get to pass through the cosy bar area as you head there. The décor used in new and modern and you’re welcomed quite warmly when you arrive. As you go through the menu you can enjoy some drinks and sun-dried tomato bread. There aren’t that many starters to choose from but for the main course, you’ll have 12 different options minus the specials.

The real magic is in the dishes which are elegantly prepared to ensure that each part of any dish compliments the other. For the starter, there are more classical options such as the steamed Isle of Lewis mussels and pancetta in wild garlic cream or you can go for something a little less obvious like the smoked chicken tart with marinated pepper topped with Northumberland nettle cheese and micro-cress salad. Whichever option you go for is sure to be a delight for your taste buds. It’s hard to settle on a particular choice for the main course but it’s hard to go wrong with the seafood. It’s very well cooked and when served with a pepper sauce, you’ll find that the sauce doesn’t overpower the flavour of the food. The accompanying vegetables are also a delight, coming in many colours, shapes and sizes. They are also quite fresh.

If you can’t make a choice on the main course, you can also opt for the specials available on that day. There is also the dessert to look forward to at the end of your meal and there are a few good options to choose from.
